In this course we view English as something to explore, play with, and grow into. The idea is that you build real skills through practice, creativity, and collaboration. You will be encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them so that you can you become a more confident and versatile communicator.
In this English course you will work toward four big goals that go beyond vocabulary lists and grammar drills. Together they map the journey from knowing the language to using it confidently. Mastering these goals will strengthen your use English and wider skills like creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration, that you will need beyond the classroom.
Every goal in this course is practiced at three levels: Knowledge, Skill, and Master. They help you grow from learning the foundations to using English confidently and independently. In every topic there are several modules that correspond to the three levels. Each module includes a specific task and an assessment format (checks, practical activities, projects, exams etc.) that matches the level. By completing the task, you show that you've mastered the skill connected to that module. There will be no number grades or points for the modules. Instead they are graded «Pass/Fail». Either you meet the quality criteria or you do not pass.
At the Knowledge level, you learn and practice the essential vocabulary, grammar, and language skills that are the basis for everything else we do. You show that you can remember important facts, understand how English works, and use basic forms correctly.

You mostly show your progress in quizzes and checks.
You get a pass for 75% correct answers. You can repeat each Knowledge module once in a second quiz.
If you miss a Pass by 1 point, you can show your competency in a learning conversation right after the quiz.

At the Skill level, you take what you’ve learned at the Knowledge level and put it into action. This is where you apply your language skills in practical tasks, showing that you can use English purposefully and appropriately in different contexts.

You show your skills by completing concrete tasks writing short texts, holding conversations or presentations and recording yourself on video.
You can repeat each Skill module once in a learning conversation with the teacher.

At the Master level, you show that you can put to use your knowledge and skills in complex, purposeful assignments—whether that means creating something original, presenting your ideas clearly, or expressing yourself with accuracy and confidence.

You demonstrate your mastery by writing an essay, article or blog, creating digital products, leading a discussion, or taking a formal test or an oral exam.
There are no redos in Master level assessments.

In this English course you have the chance to work very independently: you manage your own time and decide when — or if — you want to demonstrate a competency. For this model to work, there are a few limitations. They help you structure your learning, and they are my conditions for being able to offer this kind of open and free learning experience.
A ‘redo’ is the opportunity to demonstrate a skill again after your first attempt. This takes the pressure off and gives you the chance to practise and improve until you have truly mastered the skill.
You can demonstrate most skills twice. There are differences between the individual levels (see above).

Some skills cannot be retaken. This is always stated in the specific module, so please read the instructions carefully.

Each phase has binding deadlines. These specify when a quiz or a learning discussion will take place, or the latest possible dates for submitting project work or demonstrating Knowledge and Skill competencies.
These deadlines are bindig for everyone. Late submissions mean the competency will not be accepted.

If you are unable to attend an appointment or are unwell, you must cancel BEFORE the deadline or appointment. Otherwise, you will lose the opportunity for a redo.

You get two Jokers every school year as a safety net. Jokers can only be used with Knowledge and Skill modules and can be set for the following occasions:
